James Gyakye Quayson, the Member of Parliament for Assin North has reminisced about the struggles of the people in the area which have strenthen them, even as he encourages them to forge ahead toward a future full of opprtunities for the youth.
According to the lawmaker, the history of Assin North, marked by adversity and a preserved culture amidst deprivation aligns with the larger African past experience.
Mr Quayson expressed these sentiment in a message to the people of Africa especially the people of Assin North to mark the 2025 African Union (AU) Day on May 25 held on the theme “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations”,.
“Here in Assin North, our history is intertwined with that of the larger African story. Our people have inherited the legacy of strength through adversity, of culture preserved in the face of gross under-development”, he noted.
He urged the need for the past sad experiences to serve as guideposts that shape the future founded on truth, justice and opportunity for young ones in each community.
“As we revisit our history, we must use it as a guidepost—not to dwell on past wounds, but to shape a future founded on truth, justice, and opportunity for every young boy and girl in our communities”.
Mr Gyakye Quayson stated that “Africa Day stands as a symbol of our unity, resilience, and shared commitment to development rooted in justice and equity. It reminds us not only of the progress we have made as a people but also of the common challenges we continue to face—social, economic, and political—within a global system still marked by inequality”.

African Union Day 2025 Statement
On this momentous occasion of African Union Day 2025, I extend warm greetings to the people of Assin North, and from Assin North communities to fellow Ghanaians, and all Africans across the continent and the diaspora.
Under the theme “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations”, we are called to reflect deeply on the historical, and continued injustices endured by our people and to renew our collective resolve to pursue redress, healing, and a dignified future for all.
Africa Day stands as a symbol of our unity, resilience, and shared commitment to development rooted in justice and equity. It reminds us not only of the progress we have made as a people but also of the common challenges we continue to face—social, economic, and political—within a global system still marked by inequality.
What we see in Burkina Faso and the Sahel Region is a testament to the fact that the African can no longer wait, but must take control of his destiny and narrative. I am proud to see that our government has chosen the path of owning and reshaping our own story, by beginning a national reset—putting the right programs in place for our total economic and social emancipation as a people.
Here in Assin North, our history is intertwined with that of the larger African story. Our people have inherited the legacy of strength through adversity, of culture preserved in the face of gross under-development. As we revisit our history, we must use it as a guidepost—not to dwell on past wounds, but to shape a future founded on truth, justice, and opportunity for every young boy and girl in our communities.
The call for reparations is not just about compensation—it is about restoring dignity, demanding accountability, and ensuring that the past is not forgotten but transformed into a powerful force for progress. We in Assin North stand in solidarity with this continental and global movement for justice.
As we mark this day, let us recall the prophetic words of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the father of our nation and a visionary of African unity:
“The forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart.”
Let these words guide us in our continued struggle for unity, justice, and true liberation.
Let this AU Day be a moment of unity, introspection, and action. Together, we can shape a future where every African—regardless of geography or background—can live with pride, purpose, and promise.
Happy African Union Day!
Signed,
Hon. James Gyakye Quayson
Member of Parliament
Assin North Constituency
