The Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has noted that the hansard of Ghana’s Parliament would tell the true story of the works of Members of Parliament and what they stood for many years to come.
According to him this came to mind when he was reflecting on the passing away of the Member of Parliament for Akwatia and Tamale Central hence the importance of hansard and the work done by staffs of Parliament at the department.
He made these remarks at the opening of the 11th Biennial Conference of the Commonwealth hansard editors’ association, Africa region.
Mr. Mahama Ayariga further noted that the 11th Biennial Commonwealth meeting is taking place in Accra when our world is moving into an AI world, so artificial intelligence, technology and social media have become a mechanism of preserving record of what is happening and would impact on their work as keepers of the record of parliament, how do they take advantage of this new technology and embed them in the work they do.
“And I know AI has a technology to help transcribe in real time what has been said into written record and parliament has its own television channel and they cover their proceedings live, so you are not the only person hansard to bear testimony of what is happening on the floor”.
“The citizens are also watching live, you have to align with what they heard, so should there be discrepancy on what they heard and what you have written, there wouldn’t be controversy”.
AI and technology give us the opportunity to make our governance relevant, and the work of parliament should bear relevance to the delivery of service.
