After a very busy second meeting of the first session of the ninth Parliament of the fourth Republic, one would think as the House is on recess lawmakers would rest. Far from it, as it is rather the period to engage in intensive constituency engagement.

This is the view of the Yilo Krobo lawmaker Albert Tetteh Nyakotey who in an interview with Ghanamps.com, noted that keeping faith with one’s constituents require regular presence and interaction and the recess period presents a golden opportunity to achieve that.

In his case, he said he has been touring his constituency for the past three weeks on a thank you tour and has visited forty communities since after the 2024 elections it has been parliamentary work and no time to meet constituents.

The interractions, he noted would enable him understand situations at the various communities at first-hand and to strategize in dealing with them to improve the lives of the people; as well as to explain government’s program and policies to the people.

My constituents have been waiting but there is also parliamentary work to be done, so when it comes to rest as MPs we don’t have enough time to rest. I start getting calls as early as 4:00am which I have to respond to.

“Yes, it’s time to rest and my health is very important to me and it is everybody’s responsibility, so I have been doing some medical checkup; I was at Ridge Hospital to make sure I am in good form. Because I am going to represent my people for the third time, I need to be healthy and ready for the race”.
