The Minority members on the Committee of Communications and Information have taken a swipe at the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George for his stance on the DSTV impasse and pronouncements he made in the media at their press statement on the matter.
According to the Minority, they are not surprised, given his reputation for arrogance, disrespect, and pomposity among well-meaning Ghanaians, adding that as Minority members, they have been diligent in their committee work.
In a statement issued by the Ranking member of the Committee, Matthew Nyindam noted that the Minority, indeed, wrote to the Chairman of the committee requesting for a meeting to address the DSTV impasse. It is worth noting that the Chairman, a Majority member, is responsible for summoning meetings, not members from the Minority.
It would be recalled that Samuel Nartey George once stated in a media encounter: “I will meet the Ghana and South African team in my office, and I am clear in my mind that the meeting will not come to an end without an agreed reduction in price. I have seen the attempt by the South African management to say that when you buy a package, they should upgrade you to the next one. We are grateful, but that is not what we want.”
It appears that his stance has shifted. The question remains: who between him and the minority members is incompetent? They queried.
Minority’s Demands
The Minority in their statement thus demands the following;
- The Minister should inform every Ghanaian of his reason for changing his initial stance on not accepting any upgrade but price reduction of not less than 30%.
- The Minister should account for the amount collected by the government from the GH¢10,000 imposed on DSTV since its inception.
Regarding his insult on the Minority, we will not request an apology from him because it is a trait that is too expensive for him to afford.
We reiterate that the Minority members on the committee are dedicated professionals who take their responsibilities seriously and are always available for scheduled meetings.
