Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament Patrick Yaw Boamah has expressed worry over some developments with the Gold Board particularly the institution’s ability in licensing so many companies within this short space of time.

According to him, for an institution established less than a year to have licensed over six hundred buying companies raises a lot of concerns about the licensing regime.

Mr Patrick Boamah revealed that so far, the Gold Board has given licenses as follows:

Aggregator License — 1

Self-finance Aggregator — 21

Buyer License Tier I — 204

Buyer License Tier II  — 420

At a press conference on Friday, October 31, 2025, he pointed out that he wrote to the Gold Board seeking information on licenses and questioned what due diligence process was undertaken.

“These number of companies, are they traceable and are they engaging in responsible mining? You, as the media should be interested in the number of licenses; how they were issued, were they vetted?”. He stated.

He also raised issues with fees and charges that have been applied by the Gold Board, stating that companies have been charged fees by the Gold Board. Unfortunately, these fees and charges were not brought to the subsidiary legislature to look into and approve under fees and charges.

Furthermore, the board of directors was inaugurated in May of this year; and this gives an open door for more questions to be answered, he stated.
