The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu has poopooed Vincent Asafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo in the Ashanti Region for impugning corruption in the government sanitary pads policy for schoolgirls.
The Minister described Mr. Asafoah’s calculation which convinced him that there was some underhand dealing in the procurement of the sanitary pads as “chop bar” arithmetic having gotten the whole calculation wrong.
“Mr. Speaker, a colleague of mine arguing on sanitary pads chose to do chop bar arithmetic, he just took the number of 6.6 million first batch of sanitary pad supply and came to the conclusion that government was procuring sanitary pad at GHS45”
He described the MP’s assertion as a palpable falsehood, adding that the total number of sanitary pads being procured by the government is twelve million two hundred and eight at GHS292 million; “not for him to just take 6.6million and divide it by 292 million and come to the conclusion that 1 of it is costing GHS45”.
Mr. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Old Tafo Member of Parliament, accused the government of inflating the price of sanitary pads being distributed to girls in schools during the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the government
According to him, per the amount allocated for procuring the sanitary packs and what has been distributed, government was procuring 1 pack of pad at almost GHS45.
