February 27, 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a major shift from planning to action on his flagship 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, marking a new phase in the government’s economic transformation agenda.

Delivering the State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, 2026, the President confirmed that the initiative first launched in 2025 is now fully backed by law and ready for implementation.

“This is the boldest economic transformation initiative in recent years,” President Mahama told Parliament.
From Policy to Law

The President revealed that on February 6, 2026, Parliament passed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, establishing the legal and regulatory framework for the programme. Just last week, he signed the legislation into law at a Cabinet meeting.

“All is now set for take-off,” he affirmed.

The transformative initiative is designed to achieve four core objectives:
* Unlock round-the-clock economic activity
* Deepen value chains across key sectors
* Boost productivity and support export growth
* Create quality jobs in agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, and services

Funding the Future

To kickstart the programme, the government has allocated GHS 110 million in the 2026 Budget. According to the President, these resources will enable businesses to operate beyond traditional hours and attract private investment through strategic partnerships with the Development Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund.

“This is about building prosperity and restoring hope through concrete action,” President Mahama said, emphasizing that the initiative will strengthen the foundations for sustained growth and job creation, particularly for Ghana’s youth.
