President John Mahama has announced that 50 major road projects spanning 1,144 kilometers are currently underway as part of the government’s flagship “Big Push” Infrastructure Programme, promising Ghanaians a “major improvement” in travel experiences by the end of 2027
.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Friday, February 27, 2026, the President detailed the scope of the infrastructure drive aimed at restoring critical roads, opening economic corridors, and creating jobs.
Clearing Contractor Arrears
To ensure the viability of these projects, President Mahama noted that his administration has made significant strides in settling debts owed to contractors.
“Mr Speaker, by the end of 2025, the ministries of finance and roads had cleared arrears amounting to GHS 10 billion owed to road contractors, and they are steadily continuing to reduce sector debts,” he stated.
He reiterated that the Big Push represents his vision for a national infrastructure overhaul. The total estimated cost for the 50 new projects currently under construction is GHS 50 billion.
Completing Inherited Projects.
In addition to the new works, the government is also focused on finishing projects left underfunded by the previous administration.
President Mahama confirmed that 23 such projects, covering 573 km and estimated to cost GHS 15 billion, are currently being completed.
In total, 73 projects are advancing across all 16 regions, with the government promising that “significant, visible progress” will be evident by the end of the year.

The President highlighted several critical ongoing projects that are set to transform transport links. These include major highways, interchanges, and ring roads:

* Suame Interchange and local roads
* Sunyani Outer Ring Road
* Sampa-Jinijini Road
* Techiman-Nkonsia-Wenchi
* Dualization of Winneba-Cape Coast Road
* Kwahu Tafo-Adawso Road
* Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya Road
* Gbintiri-Nakpanduri Road
* Tamale Outer Ring Road
* Wenchi-Sawla Road
* Sawla-Wa Road
* Bole-Chache and Bole Town Roads
* Navrongo-Tumu Road
* Tumu-Han-Lawra Road
* Atimpoku-Ho Road
* Ho-Denu Road
* Dualization of Accra-Aflao Road (Phase I)
* Dualization of Cape Coast-Takoradi Road
* Dadieso Akontombra Road
Focus on Feeder Roads
The President also underscored the importance of connecting rural communities, noting that several key feeder roads are receiving attention. These include:
* Akosombo-Gyakiti-Kudikope
* Yeniam Junction-Sedorm
* Apeguso-Mpakadan
* Todome-Toh Kpalime-Dzemeni
“The whole of Ghana will be a construction site, and Ghanaians can testify that serious roadworks are underway across the country,” President Mahama concluded.
