Voting is currently underway in the Ayawaso East Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, where residents are heading to the polls today, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, to elect a new Member of Parliament.

The Electoral Commission has confirmed that over 49,000 registered voters are eligible to participate in the by-election. Reports from various polling stations across the constituency indicate a steady turnout of voters, with the process remaining peaceful and orderly so far.

Authorities had previously cautioned political actors and the public against any form of unlawful activity, an appeal that appears to have been heeded in the early hours of voting.

The parliamentary seat became vacant following the death of the sitting MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in January 2026.

The by-election presents a contest between the two major political parties. The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is represented by Baba Jamal, a former High Commissioner to Nigeria. He is being challenged by Baba Ali of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Electoral Commission has reassured residents and stakeholders of its commitment to ensuring a transparent and well-organized electoral process.
