Lawmakers in the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic will take a break today, bringing the first meeting of the second session to a close after eight weeks of intense legislative activity.

The recess, which coincides with the Easter season, will allow Members of Parliament (MPs) to return to their constituencies to engage with constituents on socio-cultural and economic development matters.

Late Sittings to Clear Legislative Business

In typical fashion ahead of a parliamentary break, the House has been sitting late into the evenings in recent days to finalize outstanding business. Lawmakers have been working to clear a backlog of bills and complete other key legislative undertakings before the Speaker officially adjourns proceedings later today.

Beyond the high activity on the floor, this meeting also saw a flurry of committee sittings, where members considered referrals and carried out their core oversight responsibilities.

What to Expect

Plenary will continue today until the Speaker brings proceedings to a close. Parliament is expected to resume for the second meeting of the session in late May 2026.
