The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has dismissed claims by the Minority that the ruling administration has abandoned inherited road projects.

Responding on the floor of Parliament to a press conference held by the Minority on Tuesday, Mr. Agbodza clarified the government’s position regarding ongoing infrastructure works.

“Mr. Speaker, for the avoidance of doubt, under the reset leadership of President Mahama, road projects have not been unjustifiably suspended or terminated,” he stated.

The Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to address inherited debts, noting that significant progress has been made on the over GHS 40 billion arrears. “The huge unpaid debt of over GHS 40 billion has received attention with over GHS 11 billion paid to retire arrears inherited from the previous administration. This is by far the single largest arrears clearance in a relatively short period in our history,” he added.

Addressing specific concerns, Mr. Agbodza assured the house that the Accra-Kumasi Bypass Project is still active. “Indeed, we completed one lot and took possession last year and the rest are being prepared for financing in the 2027 budget, if approved by Parliament,” he said.

He noted that the unpaid arrears and the cost to complete the project are estimated at GHS 6.0 billion.
