The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government will honor its commitment to allocate substantial funding to technical universities across the country, while also assuring that students will not face financial stress in the upcoming academic years.

Addressing parliament, Minister Iddrisu confirmed that the GETFund will make a minimum allocation of 10 million Ghana cedis to each technical university nationwide, totaling 100 million cedis in support.

“We are going to take a look at the technical investment,” Iddrisu stated. “We gave assurances that into 2027, the GETFund will make a minimum allocation of 10 million Ghana cedis to support each of the technical universities across the country, totaling 100 million cedis. And we will honor that.”

The Minister also moved to allay concerns about student fees, declaring that there are no outstanding obligations regarding the “no fee stress” policy for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic years.

According to Iddrisu, the Ministry of Finance has made adequate releases to the Student Loan Trust Fund, which is responsible for implementing the no-fee policy and the free tertiary education program for persons with disabilities.

“The Honourable Minister for Finance has made releases adequately to the Student Loan Trust, which is executing the no fee stress and the free tertiary for persons with disability,” Iddrisu explained.

The verification process, the Minister noted, is straightforward and involves confirming student identities and enrollment status.

“What we do is just authentication. Are you the real student? Are you a student of this particular institution? And more importantly, are you a first year student? When that is satisfactory, the disbursement is done,” he said.

The Minister confirmed that disbursements are currently being made to eligible students through the Student Loan Trust Fund.

The government’s commitment to technical education and student financial support comes as part of broader efforts to enhance Ghana’s tertiary education sector and ensure accessibility for all qualified students.
