Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has moved to calm public concerns, assuring that Ghana’s power generation capacity is currently sufficient to meet demand.
Appearing before the Government Assurances Committee on Tuesday, Jinapor was emphatic that the ministry is not engaged in any form of load shedding.
While acknowledging that some areas may experience occasional power outages, the minister explained that these disruptions are typically due to localized issues such as power trips or blown transformers, rather than a national generation deficit.
“It is not out of place for some areas to experience occasional lights out,” Jinapor said, attributing most of these incidents to distribution challenges.
To address these localized problems, the minister disclosed that efforts are already underway to replace approximately 1,000 transformers across the country. He noted that this initiative is crucial for reducing strain on the existing infrastructure, which will ultimately lead to a more stable and improved power supply.
Jinapor also reassured the public of his ministry’s commitment to transparency, promising to openly communicate any future challenges or deficits and to provide timely solutions when they arise.
