Gushegu Member of Parliament, Sulemana Alhassan Tampuli has noted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority in Parliament will not have challenge in Parliament as six-three plus members of their caucus have declared their support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead them in 2028 as their flagbearer.
It also emerged that there were two MPs who would not be named for good reasons, but they said those two are working on the ground in their constituency for Dr. Bawumia.
Responding to a question on the possible repercussions of their support, he stated that they are a democratic party that is going into a contest; and after the contest they would collaborate on the floor of the House.
In an interview he pointed out that, “it happened in 1998 when Nana Akufo Addo, a Member of Parliament contested against John Agyekum Kuffuor. But after that, those who campaigned against him worked with him so there would be no problem”.
On the issue of the Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh Dompreh in leadership and declaring his support for Dr. Bawumia, he said it has always been the tradition; and would not change anything.
Even though the former President Nana Akuffo-Addo advised National Executives not to declare their support, he insists that “that directive does not affect them as Members of Parliament, stating that they are not national executives; “and MPs have always declared their preference where we stand”, he noted.
