Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang donates vehicle to party

The Member of Parliament (NPP) for Asante-Akim North, Mr Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has donated a four-wheel vehicle to the constituency office of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This, he said, was meant to enhance the party’s activities in the area and it comes as preparation towards the 2016 electioneering campaign gathers momentum.

Handing the vehicle over in a ceremony at Agogo, he urged hard work, loyalty and sacrifice by the members and supporters, to help the NPP recapture political power.

They should overcome parochial and self-serving agenda and accept to put the party ahead of all other considerations.

Mr. Sam Payne, the Ashanti Regional Secretary, said there was no doubt it would greatly boost the operation of the party.

He reminded the party’s faithful to eschew complacency and internal wrangling – they should do away with needless and costly distractions.

They should rather focus on the job of helping voters to have better understanding of the party’s philosophy and why they should give their votes to the NPP.

He said it was by winning over more voters and getting the people to go out to vote, that the party would be assured of victory in 2016.

Mr. Sampson Adjei, the Constituency Chairman, receiving the keys to the vehicle, praised the MP for the gesture and said that must fire up all to contribute their quota towards the party’s growth.

I’ve never had an NPP membership card – Afenyo Markin

Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, Alexander Afenyo Markin has disclosed that he has never owned a New Patriotic Party (NPP) membership card.

According him, though he has been a party member for several years and has worked in some constituencies in the Central Region and is he’s now a serving Parliamentarian, he’s yet to acquire a party membership card.

“I’ve been an NPP member for years and have even worked in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese constituency before, I’m not sure that I need an NPP card to show that indeed I am a member of this great party” he said.

However, the party’s constitution stipulates that: “Every person shall, upon being enrolled as a member, be issued with a membership card bearing the person’s name, address, constituency or overseas branch which the person has been enrolled”.

Hon. Afenyo Markin, made the revelation on Adom Fm’S Dwaso Nsem programme on Wednesday while speaking to the issue of attacks on the former Chief Marketing Officer of telecommunication giant MTN and a leading member of protest group OccupyGhana, George Andah who has publicly declared his intention to contest the parliamentary primaries of the NPP in the Awutu Senya West constituency.

Many, especially functionaries of the governing NDC, have questioned the motives of the pressure group, Occupy Ghana, with others questioning his status as an NPP member as they claim he has no membership card.

Hon. Afenyo Markin who mounted a strong defense of Mr Andah stated that he has known the aspirant for a long time, and can vouch for his humbleness and hard work.

‘George Andah will make a good politicians since he is hard working and result orientation and will better serve the god people of Awutu Senya West Constituency.

Haruna Iddrisu mocks NPP’s dream of replicating……..

Employment and Labour Relations Minister Haruna Iddrisu has said the victory by Gen, Muhammadu Buhari over incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in the just ended Presidential elections in Nigeria will not in any way affect the chances of President John Mahama in the 2016 general election.

According to him the NPP’s assertion that, the victory for the Nigerian opposition leader is a sign of good omen for Akufo-Addo in 2016 is misplaced.

He said such inferences and conclusions are farfetched and that Ghanaians are going to retain President Mahama in government based on his interventions and infrastructure deliveries across the country.

Haruna Iddrisu who is also the Member of Parliament for Tamale South was addressing NDC party supporters to round off his Easter tour of the constituency.

“One will want to dismiss as illogical and imaginary if not whimsical the kind of conclusions that many people have come to. ..I am extremely optimistic that President Mahama will deliver on his core pledges to the people of Ghana. The particular attention which is occupying his attention is fixing the current energy crisis and getting the country on course” he said.

Mr Iddrisu said the contest and circumstances of the Nigerian elections are not same as what pertains in the country and the issues and concerns are equally not same.

He said President Mahama is working to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians as promised in his manifesto pledge.

The Tamale South MP also said the IMF bailout approval will stabilize the local currency and improve the macro-economic performance of the country.

Hon. Quashigah joined the people in their communities during their social gatherings as has always been the practice when families take stock, make merry and above all take concrete steps towards the development of their communities.

Some of the communities he joined included Kedzi, Seva, Atiavi, Aborlorvi, Sasieme, Asadame, Atsime among others.

Addressing the people at separate durbars, Mr. Quashigah assured the people of his commitment to help meet the development needs of the various communities, adding that a lot of consultation and lobbying has to be done before those needs can be met hence the delay in implementing some of the interventions.

In spite of this, he said a lot has been achieved and beneficiary communities are very happy today despite earlier doubts about the actual execution of those projects.

Some of these executed projects include roads, schools, health facilities, electricity extensions, provision of solar lights, distribution of solar lamps, and provision of toilet facilities among others.

“It is obvious the massive work being done to extend electricity to a number of communities as currently a lot of electric poles have been distributed along with cables for major works to start. At least those in the beneficiary communities now know my words were not just mere promises but action oriented. I will continue to be your voice and collaborate with other leaders particularly the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Sylvester Tornyeava who has been very cooperative to bring the needed relief to our people”, he stated.

Choked gutters cause havoc

The usual attitude of Ghanaians not been proactive until disaster occurs keeps surfacing with the onset of the rains.

Choked gutters have started causing major disturbances in homes in the Ablekuma South Constituency in the Greater Accra Region as residents and city authorities made no attempt to clear the choked gutters.

Not even the national Sanitation Day clean-up exercise is an incentive enough to compel residents around the area to organize themselves to prevent an annual bitter experience they always have to endure.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, residents around Karikari- Marigold area said some houses have started experiencing flooding and they are worried the situation may get worse.

“This area is facing serious challenges, the gutters need to be covered and since it has not, it’s now filled with filth, rocks and sand thereby blocking the water from running through it. Most of the houses around get flooded as a result as it stands the gutter cannot contain the volume of water during heavy rains”, a resident noted.

Another resident added that “though some of the roads were tarred properly, other part were badly done so when it rains it washes the asphalt away, especially the joint street to Chorkor, the place has been severely eroded”.

According to them, even though the young men in the area try to make living out of the choked gutters by collecting the sand for sale, they careless about the waste that is collected along the with sand hence they dump them at the edges of the gutters only to be washed back into the gutters.

“Our worry actually is the period between May/June when the rains will be severe. If care is not taken a lot of people will have their properties destroyed because most homes will be flooded. We know the danger that awaits us but we have no alternative place to relocate to so you only pray that the situation does not get to that level”.

They want city authorities to help desilt the gutters before the major raining season in May/June. “But for a more permanent solution, the gutters should be covered”, one resident advised.
