Bagbin: Randy Abbey now Mahama’s gate-keeper

Former Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin says Senior Journalist, Randy Abbey, is now the gate-keeper at President John Mahama’s official residence.

The aggrieved Nadowli West Member of Parliament says Randy Abbey’s gate-keeping role has led to the denial of access to the President, to many members of the governing party.

“…If you go to President Mahama’s house, official residence, and Randy Abbey is in charge there, how do you expect NDC members to have access to the President?” Bagbin said Monday.

Bagbin has in the past few days questioned the President’s commitment to fighting corruption in government.

The former health minister wondered why he has been denied access to Mahama for the past five months despite his persistent efforts to counsel him privately about tackling corruption in his government.

Lands and natural resources minister, Inusah Fuseini, has also come out to confirm to Radio XYZ on Strict Proof that he has on several occasions seen Randy Abbey at the President’s residence but adds that Randy’s presence cannot be blamed for the inability of some party people to see the President.

In a workshop to enlighten lawmakers about the new budgeting system, Finance Minister Seth Terpker said the new system will introduce flexibility and reduce over centralization.

I ceasefire -Alban Bagbin

A former Majority Leader in Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin says he has “ceased fire” on his criticism of the John Mahama administration.

This follows a truce called by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia to end the media war between Mr. Alban Bagbin on one side as well as some government appointees and party communicators.

General Mosquito as the NDC scribe is popular called, acknowledged the seeming division between the party and government and assured the issue will be resolved amicably.

The former Majority leader who is also one of the three ‘wise men’ in charge of government’s priority projects, bemoaned the difficulty in inaccessing the president and chose to advise him in public.

His comments provoked reaction from some government appointees with a presidential staffer, Stan Dogbe and Foreign Minister, Hanna Tetteh leading the charge on facebook.

While some say the Nadowli-Kaleo Member of Parliament chose the wrong platform to express his concerns, others believe he [Bagbin] has betrayed the trust of the president.

But speaking on Peace FM’s morning show Kokrokoo Tuesday, Alban Bagbin described as unfortunate how people have misconstrued his statements.

According to him, his recent comments about the Mahama-led administration’s inability in fighting corruption were not made out of malice.

Mr. Bagbin said he will abide by the directive issued by Asiedu Nketia and not allow himself to be provoked by anyone especially in government.

“I respect the General very well; I think the right thing should be done so from now on it’s total cease fire,” he stressed.

The Director of the Operation at the Greater Accra Regional Police, Chief Supt. Sylvester Boyou has accused the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, Henry Quartey of inciting traders operating at Tip-toe Lane against police and the AMA.

Officials from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Police are currently demolishing temporary structures at the Tip-Toe lane near Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

Chief Supt. Boyou told Citi News that the exercise started with little resistance from the traders until the MP arrived in the area.

He however denied reports that the Police had used tear-gas to disperse the traders who attempted to resist the demolition exercise.

The AMA says the exercise forms part of plans to decongest the City.

According to Citi FM’s Sammy Wiafe who is in the area said the traders say selling in the area is their only means of survival.
