The Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah has extended his benevolence to free vacation classes for SHS 1 & 2 students from various schools and residents in the constituency.

According to him, the children are the future leaders of the nation and therefore want to occupy them during the vacation instead of allowing them to loiter around, engaging in unnecessary ventures.

The classes will cover both core and elective subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, Social Studies and Economics.

He added that some parents cannot afford the vacation classes but he has taken it upon himself to organize such programme for the children yearly to support them in their academic endeavour.

Boamah reiterated that to become somebody better in future starts from school and calls for collective responsibilities to support the children in their education. He buttresses his point with the Holy Bible that says, train up the child the way he should go and when he grows up he will not depart from it.

He pointed out that he can organize classes for them but he cannot learn for them thereby admonishing them to take their books as their best friend instead of constantly using the social media.

The MP advised them to pray, learn and respect elders in society and also urge the parents and guardians not to miss this unique opportunity for their wards, they should make sure they are there to experience it.

Member of Parliament for Damango in the Northern Region, Mutawakilu Adam, is demanding accountability in the management of road tolls in the country.

He said, it is compulsory for the Ministry of Roads and Highways as well as the Ghana Road Fund to account to Ghanaians the amount of revenue generated from the collection of tolls in Ghana and how they are expended.

“The Road Fund needs to come out clearly on how much they raised in a year, what they use the money for so that we will have insight about it, if not people will generalize everything” he stated when contributing on TV3’s New Day programme on Friday.

His comment comes on the back of government announcement that it has abrogated 136 road contracts due to the failure of the contractors to begin construction work.

Mr. Adam said it is necessary for the Ministry of Roads and Highways to tell the people of Ghana what happens to the roads that have had its contracts cancelled.

“The Roads Ministry and Road Fund must come out to tell us what is next because if my road has been abrogated, my concern is, will another contractor come to work because road contract abrogation is not new to us” he said.

The MP added: “it is very important that as a nation, we evaluate the contracts to ensure that there is no judgment debt hanging on our necks”.

Contributing to the discussion, deputy Chief Executive of Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Eric Amoako Twum, justified the cancellation of those contracts saying that once a contract is signed and mobilization funds provided, the government has the right to revoke it if the contractor does not begin construction.

“There is a certain amount of time; reasonable time for you to go to site and if that has happened and you have not moved to the site, then it must be abrogated” he stated.

The honorable Member of Parliament for the Nsawam- Adoagyiri constituency in the Eastern region, Frank Annoh-Dompreh is advocating for the setting up of a Research Fund to support research works by researchers and Tertiary institutions in the country.

This, he said will curb the dependence on research allowances for the conduct of research works.

He stated that a purposely dedicated fund for research work alone will enhance findings that will inform policy decision making process in the country.

According to him, the establishment of a research fund would also take the burden of annual payment of research allowances off government shoulders because those who desire to conduct any form of research can access the fund directly for assistance.

Various categories of Ghanaian workers including teachers, doctors, and scientists among others have constantly expressed concerns about the non/delay payment of their research allowances as result of non-availability of funds in government coffers.

Mr Martin Dometiere Bomba–Ire, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Lawra district Assembly in the upper west region has advised students to take full advantage of the free holiday classes organized by the Member of Parliament for the area.

He said the initiative by the MP is a laudable one to help students acquire knowledge instead of playing around during the holiday.

The DCE gave the advice when he toured some of the centres including Lawra zone (E/A JHS), Babile zone (Birifoh SHS), Eremon Zone (Eremon SHS), and Dowine zone ( Dowine SHS) on behalf of the Member of Parliament (MP), Anthony Abayifaa Karbo of the Lawra constituency.

According to the DCE, the MP is taking responsibility of the cost of the classes and such no student is to pay even a penny to anyone.

He was particularly impressed at the turnout of the students at the various centres and urged them to keep it up.

The DCE also shared words of encouragement at all the four centers edging the students to take up the studies seriously in order to achieve success in life since education is the key, and also to avoid peer pressure that will land them into unwarranted trouble that will jeopardized their future.

The Member of Parliament for Effiduasi/Asokore constituency Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, Sekyere East District Chief Executive Hon Mary Boatemaa Marfo, technocrats at the Assembly, Departmental Heads from Government institutions and NPP constituency party executives embark on a familiarisation tour within the 44 communities in the District to officially introduce the District Chief Executive to the residents in the communities.

The tour is to bring local governance to the doorstep of the people and to listen to the problems of the individual towns in the District. The problems facing these communities include poor roads network, portable drinking water, toilet facilities, electricity and bad state of some school buildings.

Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, Member of Parliament assured the residents of the various towns that he will listen to the cry of the people and urged them that the president will roll it’s policies on all campaign promises but it’s just a matter of time. He appealed to them to exercise restraints and pray for the president.

Hon Mary Boatemaa Marfo, Sekyere East District Chief Executive told Nananom that her door is always opened for their views, opinions and suggestions that will help the District and the nation to develop.

She urged them to calm down and advised the youth to refrain from deviant behaviours that will affect their future. The implementation of Free SHS is underway, One District, One Factory is on it’s way, one million dollars one constituency will be in to help developments of the District and the nation at large.

Some of the Chiefs in the communities presented foodstuffs and sheep to the MP, DCE and their entourage. The MP and his team expressed their sincere, profound and heartfelt gratitude to the Chiefs for their kind gesture and asked of their prayers for good health and travelling mercies.

Residents in the Dome/Kwabena constituency of the Greater Accra region are complaining about the poor nature of roads in the area.

The residents are calling on government officials especially the Member of Parliament for the area, Sarah Adwoa Safo to help fix the roads.

According to some constituents who spoke to ghanamps.com, the MP should use her expertise in lobbying for other developmental needs for the area to mobilise resources to help fix the deplorable roads in the area.

Some of the roads in very deplorable state within the Dome-Kwabenya community include atomic roundabout roads, Taifa-Burkina roads among others.

Deputy Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament and a Member of parliament for the Lambussie/Karni constituency Edward Kaale-Ewola is advocating the Ghana COCOBOD to deliberately invest resources into the development of the Sheanut sector for greater yields and benefit for the country.

According to him the current sheanut trees in the country are wild trees that grew by themselves hence the need for a conscious effort at developing the industry.

He observed that the exponential increase in the market value of the sheanut on the international market demands massive investment in growing the shea tree to enhance the living standards of sheanut pickers and ensure greater yields for better dividends for the country.

The lawmaker also called for the establishment of a separate board to champion the development of the sheanut industry.

He made the call when officials of COCOBOD appeared before the Public Accounts Committee in response to infractions raised against it by the 2015 Auditor General’s report.
