Minority to raise $150 testing fee on the floor of Parliament

The Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Munbarak has served notice that when the House resumes from recess next week Tuesday, October 6, 2020, they would raise the issue of the $150 being charged for coronavirus testing at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

According to him, it is sad that the rapid testing at KIA is being done by a private institution, Frontier Healthcare Services Ltd, instead of Noguchie Memorial Institute that has been carrying out the test when the pandemic broke out.

“They call people and are using some of the staff of Noguchie to run the test, we are not treating our citizenry fairly, when during the crises they were the one doing all the work”, he lamented in an interview.

And further pointed out that, Noguchie has been over stretched during the early days of the pandemic, but when money is involved, “government thinks they are not good enough and people are scared to talk about it because of the vindictive nature of the current government”.

The Minority Chief Whip, urged the media to befriend the immigration officers at the airport of the record, they would give the media the picture of what is going on.

Under pressure MPs hide behind being lawmakers and not development agents —Boniface

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the Madina Constituency, Abu-Bakar Saddique Boniface has said, when lawmakers in Ghana’s Legislature are under pressure, they turn to say they are lawmakers and not development agents.

According to him, a lawmaker’s secondary duty after law crafting is being a development agent as the number one thing that takes him into parliament is to go and help in development, and help create good polices.

He/she is supposed to serve his or her country as well in moving it forward. “My sisters, the head porters have not moved down to Accra from the North as tourist and did not come to look at the sea, they have come to Accra in search of something to take back home”, he said.

Mr. Boniface was speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 to show case what he has achieved as lawmaker in his constituency in terms of developments.

When Ghanamps.com asked why there was no line in his speech telling his constituents about laws he has helped in crafting, he said, “I am an MP and should be a leading member in search for development to the constituency, this duty should not be left for the Assemblies alone they can not do it alone, as they rely on the Ministry for Local Government and Rural Development”.

He further explained that, as an MP, he has his colleague Ministers in parliament, he can lobby them to bring development to his constituency, and added that he has had the opportunity to bring his colleague Ministers to his constituency to appreciate some of the challenges he faces in terms of development.
