Ellembelle MP commissions toilet facilities

Mr.Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, has admitted that the launch of the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) initiative by the President will revive projects, such as the ZOIL ECO BRIGADE, in order to give employment to the Youth.

According to him, the project is a viable one, as it ensures that sanitation is sustained at the beaches which pave way for safe oil and gas exploration.

Mr.Buah, who is also the Minister for Energy and Petroleum Resources, said this when he commissioned two aqua privy toilet facilities, built in two coastal communities, Nralekpole and Nralekyi in the Ellembelle District.

He was accompanied by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Daniel K.Eshun, and the NDC Constituency Organizer, Mr. Kwame Amossah, among other party members.

Mr Buah said the toilet facilities were crucial to the communities, as most of them defecate along the beaches, which pose danger to their health and other marine activities.

He advised the people to maintain sound hygienic behaviour, and keep their natural surroundings clean, to stem the outbreak of fatal diseases, like Cholera and Ebola, especially along the coast.

The MP also advised them that since cabinet has approved for an oil and gas harbour to be built in the coastal area of Ellembelle, to serve as the centre for oil and gas activities in West Africa, the indigenes could not afford to pollute the shores with faeces, and assured them that more toilet facilities will be built in other towns.

The Regent of Nralekpole, Nana Blay Buah, thanked Mr. Buah for his swift intervention to build the facilities when the community petitioned his office.

He said the facilities will be well maintained, to prolong their life span.

Mr. Eshun assured the people that government will bring more development projects to their doorsteps, and appealed to them to be a little patient..

NDC delegates must vote for dedicatd leaders – Kavianu

Mr Jeff Tetteh Kevianu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper-Manya Krobo constituency, has appealed to delegates to the constituency congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to vote for candidates who would not use their positions for their parochial interests.

He said the NDC needed constituency officers who would mobilize grassroots support to help push the ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ of the government forward to retain the party in power in the 2016 elections.

Mr Kevianu, who was speaking in an interview with the GNA at Asesewa, appealed to the delegates to refuse to be induced by any person to vote for people who only needed the position to advance their selfish interest.

He said delegates should vote in a manner that should ensure fair representation of the various communities in the constituency to promote the development of the party throughout the constituency.

He appealed to all party members, supporters and activists to conduct the elections in the spirit of peace and unity to demonstrate the party understood democracy and preparedness to develop the country.

Rawlings silence on economy is deafening – Dr. Opoku Prempeh

Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Matthew Opoku Prempreh has questioned the ‘’deafening silence’’ of former President Rawlings, when the country is currently in a ‘’moral and economic depression.’’

He observed that the former President hurriedly chastised the Kufour administration without any justification during the New Patriotic Party’s eight-year reign.

The MP wondered why Mr. Rawlings is currently quiet despite the economic challenges. According to him, since the former President has always “arrogated himself the position of moral high priest’’ criticising everybody, what is he saying about the present economic depression.

He noted that Ghana was in its worst moment now, yet President Rawlings has closed his eyes and ears to what is going on.

Opoku Prempreh, speaking on Eyewitness News, questioned the sudden silence of the vociferous Mr. Rawlings.

According to him, the former President, who usually descended on the late President Mills’ administration and the economic hardship, has become lukewarm to the current plight of Ghanaians.

‘’… has he [Rawlings] not heard from the Supreme Court about Woyome, does he not see the corruption, has he not heard about Waterville?

What is he saying about those who aided and abated Woyome in taking all these money from Ghana, has he not heard that the government is selling the Atuabo project to foreigners, has he not heard the TUC talking?’’ he queried.

‘’Has Jerry [Former President Rawlings] lost all his key political acumen?’’ he added.

Mr. Prempeh expressed surprise as to why Mr. Rawlings could blast the NPP administration which bettered the lives of Ghanaians and be mute about current economic trends in Ghana.

Atebubu MP commends gov’t for instituting team to fight Ebola

The Member of Parliament for Atebubu Amantin in the Brong Ahafo Region, Hon. Sanja Nanja has commended government for instituting an inter-ministerial committee to mount strategies that would prevent the entry of the new Ebola virus that has spark up in some West African countries killing at least 650 people.

Government this week launched a new committee to investigate the spread of the Ebola virus within the sub-region and Ghana to intensify the fight against the deadly disease that is gradually spreading accross various West African states.

The team which comprises of the Ministers for Health, Local Government and Rural Development, Communications, Interior and Defense is tasked to deploy measures that could ensure that the virus does not find its way into the country.

At press briefing yesterday, the committee chaired by the Minister for Health, Mr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, informed the public on not only the measures taken by the team to prevent its entry but also ensure Ghanaians protection from the deadly disease.

Speaking to the issue on Gold TV’s “Good morning” programme, Hon. Sanja Nanja commended government for its proactive steps to ensure that disease does not by any means cross into the country.

He however, condemned a section of the media for creating fears that some hospitals have recorded the virus. “it is good we don’t want the virus to enter into the country but the issue of putting fears in people is simply unnecessary” he said.

Touching on cholera outbreak in the capital, the MP noted that the issue of cholera has been a part of us for years, adding that huge sums of monies are yearly pumped into its fighting but all to not avail. He urged Ghanaians to adopt a life changing attitude to help resolve the issue.

“We Ghanaians should also change our attitude to avoid contracting certain diseases like cholera…..simply to avoid eating cold foods and living in filthy environments” he noted.

Meanwhile, cholera has so far claimed about 16 lives with about 500 more receiving treatment.
