Quest for allowances and consultancy affect our work – Kofi Adda

The immediate past Minister for Sanitation Kofi Adda has attributed the Ministry’s inability to achieve much in its short existence due to the negative attitudes of some key staffs.

According to the Navrongo Central Member of Parliament, instead of the key staff focusing on achieving results, some prefer depending on consultancy services and attending workshops to claim allowances.

He however expressed hope that much can be achieved with improved sense to duty and hard work to ensure that the Presidents vision of clean Ghana is achieved.

Mr Kofi Adda made the allegation during a durbar as he heads to the Ministry of Aviation.

Former Nkwanta South Member of Parliament in the sixth Parliament, Geshon Gbediame is questing what new former President John Dramani Mahama would be bring on board, as he seeks the mandate of the National Democratic Congress to lead it in 2020 as flagbearer.

As to why he would not give him the second chance, he noted that he had all the opportunities at his disposal to win the last election as an incumbent but failed, and questioned, “What went wrong, what is new?”

“Are we waiting for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to fail so  that we compare records, when NPP was in opposition he had all the opportunities to display his talent, I am supporting I am clear in my mind and satisfied with what I am doing”, he pointed out in an interview.

According to the former Majority Whip the former President is a good friend but this time around he is throwing his weight behind the Second Deputy Speaker Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin.

When questioned if the chiefs and people of the Volta Region are unhappy with the former President, “honestly if you go to the Volta North, travel on the Hohoe Jasikan road you would ask yourself questions whether we are also countered as part of Ghanaians”.

Again it is the reason to me why, Volta North is fighting to get their own Region, so that they would get their share due them as a region, the Eastern corridor road is something that everybody in the Volta Region is unhappy  about, he said.

Everyday should be a sanitation day — Kofi Ada

Outgoing Minster of Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Ada has said for the Nation to win its crusade against waste and refuse, everyday of the week should be made a sanitation day as alluded to by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to the outgoing Minister, the previous practice where sanitation is carried out only once in the month would not help tackle the waste menace.

“We generate waste every day, why do we pour it out there and wait till we have sanitation day before we deal with the waste?”

He made this remarks at the meet the press series at the Ministry of Information.

Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda further added that as a Ministry that did not exit and didn’t have capacity a lot had been achieved and believes the incoming Ministers would continue and do more from what had been achieved.

Again with one hundred and forty nine million dollars, this has paved way for the Sanitation and Water Ministry to undertake a lot of work, a sector that was neglected for so long.

In almost a year, the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA) Sanitation and Water project through the World Bank, had been able to construct nine thousand three hundred toilets to help curb open deification.

Sanitation brigade to come into force next month—Kofi Adda

Sanitation and Water Resources Ministry would roll out Sanitation brigades next month, outgoing sector Minister Joseph Kofi Adda revealed at his meet the press at the Information Ministry.

According to the Navrongo Central legislator lack of logistics had delayed the sanitation brigades from starting work, despite the communications campaign launched by the President last year.

He further added that list of those to be recruited in the various Assemblies have been compiled.

“Again we didn’t have sufficient dresses, the wise thing to do is to wait and have the full logistics, if an Assembly presents list of fifty sanitation brigades and we give them twenty-five, it would only demoralized the remaining”, he lamented.

If I were to be in office next month I would have been launching the sanitation brigades, but the outgoing Aviation Minister who would be taking over from me would do it, he said.

Mr. Joseph Kofi Adda hinted of private entities handling sanitation marshals that would go round the Ministries, government agencies and departments, “we are doing this in a structured way to ensure that we get the right things going for the nation”.

“Not to go out there and do the wrong thing tomorrow you are back again to correct same thing”, he pointed out.

ubject suspects through due process- Minister charges

Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery has charged the rank and file of the Police Service to subject all suspects of crime to the full rigours of the law.

According to him, the only fear of Police Commanders in persecuting lawbreakers who are perceived to be related to government should be their failure to subject suspects to due process.

He stated that officers who fail to subject offenders to due process would be punished.

“Their (thus police) only fear is that, I have said it before that if any commander does not let any offender go through due process, they will be sanctioned, that is what they have to fear, what they have to fear is that if they get the suspect and they listen to any group and they release them, they will be sanctioned’’, he stated.

Responding to concerns of threats of political interference in the work of the Police, the Minister urged them to exhibit professionalism in their work.

He cautioned the public to desist from allowing people to push them into crime since they will face sanctions alone.
“We are going to have rule of law not rule of men or the rule of groups that is illegal” he warned.

Policemen to be deployed to hospitals- Ambrose Dery

Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery has disclosed that henceforth Police officers would be deployed to guard all major hospitals in the country to protect lives and properties against illegal attacks.
According to him it is crucial to protect hospital staffs who deliver healthcare service for the benefit of the masses.

Mr Dery’s declaration follows a growing spate of impunity by party foot soldiers evident in the recent attack on the Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The Minister assured that government through the security agencies especially the police will remain consistent in the prosecution of people who take the law into their own hands and that no one will be allowed to interfere in the justice delivery process.

“And what is more important is that we are going to make sure that we deploy police at the big hospitals and in fact as much as possible into all hospitals…” the Minister assured.
