Twifo-Ati Mokwa MP provides security bulbs for Nursing school

In a bid to boost security at the Community Health Nursing School in the Twifo- Ati Mokwa District, the MP for the area, Hon Samuel Ato Amoah has provided the school with four electricity poles fitted with bulbs.

According to the MP, his support to the educational facility follows recent criminal activities by some miscreants within the area which has become a source of worry for authorities and other stakeholders.

Speaking to Ghanamps.gov.gh, Hon. Samuel Ato Amoah emphasized the need for the students who will be future health care givers to study in a comfortable environment devoid of any threats or disturbances in order to receive the best of education.

He further disclosed that he spent an amount of GHC 9,600 from his own resources to purchase the electric bulbs in demonstration of his commitment to ensuring quality education in the area is realized.

Hon. Samuel Ato Amoah was confident that the provision of the security lights will not only illuminate the school compound but will discourage criminals from harassing the students.

Gov’t sets committee to oversee Mills’ anniversary

Government has set-up a new committee to look into issues concerning the one year anniversary ceremony of the late President John Evans Ata- Mills whose sudden demise occurred on 24th July, 2012 at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

The committee, led by Mr. Totobi Kwakye is expected to come out a report on the programme itinerary concerning the ceremony which is expected to take place in Accra, Cape Coast and Ekumfi Otuam, the late president’s home town.

Disclosing this in an interview with GhanaMPs.gov.gh, the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi Constituency, Hon. Abeiku Crentsil noted that all was set to ensure that the programme comes up as scheduled, adding that government was currently awaiting the report of the committee to initiate its programme.

Hon. Crentsil also confirmed that Government has also instructed the ministry of Roads and Highways to expedite work on the Essueshir- Otuam and Adansi -Immuna Otuam roads to improve transportation before, during and after the ceremony in the area.

He however urged the Ghana Highways Authourity to heed to the directive of government to ensure that the said roads are completed and handed over before the anniversary ceremony.

Late Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills was born on July 21st, 1944, at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana and hails from Ekumfi Otuam in the Ekumfi Constituency of the Central Region.

Late Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills was born on July 21st, 1944, at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana and hails from Ekumfi Otuam in the Ekumfi Constituency of the Central Region.

He was once a Vice President of Ghana in 1997-2000 and became the President in 2008. He died as a sitting President on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the 37 military Hospital few hours after he was rushed there.

He was survived by a wife Ernestina Naadu Mills, an educationist, and a son, Sam Kofi Atta Mills.

His burial place, Asomdwee Park near the former seat of government at Osu has been turned into a tourist site.

Ablekuma West MP begins desilting of drains

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Hon. Ursula Owusu has instituted a fortnightly sanitation programme in her constituency to ensure the area remains clean and also minimize flooding.

The maiden event kicked off on the morning of Saturday 1 June 2013 where the constituents were out in their numbers and with support from Zoomlion desilted choked drains on the Dansoman breach roads which have been left so over a period of time.

Hon. Ursula Owusu stated that her decision to embark on the clean up exercise especially at this time of the rainy season was to prevent the usual situation where chocked drains cause over flooding and in its wake cause damage to life and property.

She noted that it would be unfortunate for leaders in the area including herself to look on unconcerned for needless unfortunate incidents to occur hence her proactive move.

Hon. Ursula Owusu was confident that the initiative will go a long way to ensure an incident free rainy season as is the expectation of all the constituents.

Agona East MP Completes new Day Care centre

The Member of Parliament for Agona East Constituency, Hon. Queenstar Pokua Sawyerr has completed and commissioned a new kindergarten classroom block at Akuaku community in a bid to improve education in the area.

According to the MP, the facility which was named after her mother “Ama Kakraba Day care” was specifically aimed at improving early childhood education in the community and constituency in general.

Hon. Pokua Sawyerr however urged parent to ensure that children are given firm ground in order for them to improve upon their educational pursuit.

Meanwhile, information emanating indicates that the day care centre was solely finance through the MP’s personal source of funding.

Freda Prempeh trains young girls in soap making

Young girls in the Tano North Constituency of the Brong Ahafo Region have been equipped with employable skills in soap making.

The move was spearheaded by the MP for the area, Hon. Freda Prempeh.

The move form’s part of the MPs vision to empower women in her constituency; a means she said was to enable them earn a living in order to support their families as well as make lives lives worthwhile.

As part of the training participants were taken through five days of intensive teaching comprising theory and practical sessions.

Binduri MP calls for speedy completion of bridge project

Transportation on the Bawku-Garu road passing through Narango-Aniisi-Kukparigu will obviously be a thorny experience for travelers as the rains have seriously begun this month.

On this particular stretch is an uncompleted bridge project intended to be built on the Tame river, but has lingered for sometime now without proper works to ensure its completion in the area.

However in an interview with Ghanamps.gov.gh, Mr. Noah Ben Azure, the Member of Parliament for the Binduri constituency intimated that the state of the road could get out of hand if nothing is done to finish off the project.

He therefore called for the need to dispatch moves towards enhancing the road and also ensuring the swift completion of the bridge project which has been halted currently in the district.

He said a few others also had similar problems which obviously require urgent attention by all stakeholders to fix and reshape it so it would help boost transportation in the area.

Lawra MP bemoans slow pace of SHEP

The Member ofa constituency, Mr. Abu Samson has expressed worrying concerns on the future of the Self Help Electrification Project brought forward by government to assist augment the efforts in energy delivery in the system.

He indicated that the programme appeared gloomy as it is seemingly taking a nose dive because there was over concentration on the China Water Electrification Project (CWE) to the disadvantaged of the SHEP programme.

Highlighting this problem in an interview with Ghanamps.gov.gh, Mr Abu Samson noted that communities that were hooked up onto the SHEP programme, for instance in his area were still not connected to the national grid.

He said the communities scheduled under the former are practically frustrated as no better efforts have been made to expand power to serve their environs, whiles those captured under the China Water Electrification have been connected.

The MP mentioned that the CWE is by far taking over SHEP, which was even introduced long before CWE was contracted to be implemented by the Chinese developers.
He said whiles at the assembly playing his role as the DCE, he realized the extent of the imbalances created as a result of the introduction of this programme and attempted to make moves towards establishing equity in energy delivery at the district.

To this end, he said he pleaded with the Ministry of Energy to allow them incorporate some of the communities under SHEP onto CWE, but was quick to add that this never yielded any results.

He therefore called on government to endeavour to adopt some mechanisms to rectify the situation or make provisions for resources to power the SHEP programme as it had been completely abandoned.

Asikuma MP pleased with new Ghana-China development collaboration

The Member of Parliament for Asikuman-Odoben-Brakwa constituency, Hon. Georgina Nkrumah Aboah has welcomed the new Ghana-China collaboration agreement which is geared towards the improvement of capacity building and poverty eradication in various communities.

She noted that July, 2013 marks exactly 53 years of the Ghana- China relationship, however furthering that the Chinese government has done comparably well as far as capacity building and poverty eradication are concerned.

The Legislator made the assertion when she led some government officials on a tour to some selected communities within her constituency to inspect various completed projects which secured funding from both the Chinese and Ghana governments.

The projects includes an ultra-modern Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High School classroom blocks and also a new teachers’ quarters at Amanfopon. The rest are community and Information Communication Technology centers for Fosuansa and Breman Kokoso among others.

Hon. Nkrumah Aboah further disclosed that the projects in all secured 1.5 million dollars of the total contract sum from the Chinese government whiles about 500,000 dollars was realized from the Government of Ghana.

She was optimistic the move could go a long way to improve education in the various beneficiary communities and thus expressed a warm appreciation to the Chinese government for the support.

Also on his part, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Hon Kwadwo Oppong Ofosu advised communities to develop ways of identifying and taking sole responsibility of their own developmental needs and also use support from the various transfers of resources to ensure sustainable developments as a mean of strengthening capacity building.

He said this could help augment efforts made by various assembly’s through their Internally Generated Funds (IGF) which are basically geared towards ensuring infrastructural development in various communities.

The Minister however expressed worry on how the recent introduction of transfers of resources such as Common Funds from Central Government has reduce communities ways of identifying problems within their society and also deploying strategies to ensure constant development.

“When common fund and other transfer of resources from central government were introduce we realized that the self-help spirit that communities had in identifying, designing and implementing their priority needs have being left on us” he lamented.

Mr. Ofosu Oppong also expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for their support in strengthening capacity building and also playing a major role in terms of decentralization as far as Ghana’s system of governance is concern.

Binduri MP assures to galvanized support to improve roads

Mr Noah Ben Azure, Member of Parliament for Binduri has expressed worry on the pile up of road projects left unattended in the area, saying that this is affecting smooth transportation.

He reiterated that the district in general has poor road network therefore called for the need to reshape most of the feeder roads located in the district.

Speaking to Ghanamps.gov.gh in an interview, Mr Noah Azure hinted that he had already brought the issue to the attention of the Regional Minister and has assured to collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to improve the bad roads in the area.

He pointed out a few of the roads which require urgent attention including the Bakango-Sakpari road, which essentially has an uncompleted culvert project adversely affecting smooth and easy transportation for travelers.

Also, he was concerned about a broken down bridge on the Yarigungu road which had been affected since last year’s rains.

He expressed readiness to galvanize support towards the rehabilitation of the poor roads in the district, noting that it requires a concerted effort for the reconstruction of these roads.

Barton Odro supports Abrofomba Asafo No 5 Company

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Ebo Barton Odro, on Saturday appealed to individuals and organisations to support Asafo companies to enable them to effectively perform their roles in the various traditional councils.

He said that traditional councils could not effectively operate without the existence of Asafo companies.

Mr Odro, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North, made the appeal when he donated items worth Ghc 2,710.00 to the Abrofomba Asafo No.5 Company based at Russell Street in the Cape Coast South Constituency, towards the building of a new Asafo post/shrine.

The items were 40 bags of cement, two boxes of roofing nails, 14 gallons of assorted paint and two trips of sand.

Mr Odro said the donation was in responses to an appeal the Asafo NO. 5 Company made to the late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2011, when he attended the Oguaa Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast.

He appealed to the group to complete the building of the post/shine before the first anniversary of the death of the late President Mills so that it could be in commemoration of the anniversary.

Mr Odro advised Asafo companies not to allow politics to divide their ranks but they should rather unite for the development of the areas.

Supi Kwamina Sampson, head of the Asafo No. 5 Company, thanked Mr Odro for the gesture, and said though the Abrofomba Asafo No 5 Company was not in the MP’s constituency, he supported it.

He also appealed to other individuals and organizations to come to the aid of the Asafo Company.

Asafo companies are made up of traditional warriors, who in the past, went to war on behalf of their communities, organised communal labour and actively participate in traditional festivals.

The Abrofomba Asafo No.5 Company is one of the seven Asafo companies in the Oguaa traditional area.
